Urban Gardening as a Path to Sustainable Food – SEED Future Dissemination in Estonia

Date: August 2025
Location: Pärnu, Estonia
Dissemination Activity: Article published by Toidukobar / Pärnumaa Maitsed

In late summer 2025, Toidukobar, a regional food innovation initiative in Estonia, visited Nooruse Maja in Pärnu to explore how urban gardening can be successfully integrated into community kitchens. The visit resulted in a feature article published on Pärnumaa Maitsed's Facebook page, showcasing Nooruse Maja's small-scale garden and the sustainable ways in which homegrown vegetables are used in local catering activities.

The article highlights Nooruse Maja's efforts as part of the SEED Future project (Supporting Environmental Entrepreneurship Development), where local practices in food production, environmental awareness, and green entrepreneurship are linked to European-level goals of sustainability and community empowerment.

This dissemination activity supports the project’s mission by:

  • Demonstrating a hands-on model of community-based green entrepreneurship

  • Inspiring others to grow food even in urban settings

  • Promoting the integration of environmental thinking into everyday community life

The article reinforces SEED Future’s vision that sustainability starts at the local level — even a modest urban garden can become a tool for education, engagement, and economic innovation.
